The 42-level guitarist, Boon Gould, died at the age of 64.

The British artist from the Isle of Wight was found dead at his home on Tuesday morning by the Dorset police.

His teammate Mark King confirmed this news on Twitter by writing: "It is with all my heart that I must tell you about the death of our dear friend and brother Boon Gould.

"Dorset police confirmed he was found dead at his home on Tuesday morning. You are at peace now Boon, no more dull pain. Thank you for everything.

Boon, whose real name is Rowland, was one of the four founding members of Level 42.

Level 42 enjoyed fame in the 1980s with such successes as Lessons In Love, which reached third place in the UK singles standings and Something About You.

Their style was a mix of jazz-funk and dance-rock. They then turned to new wave and synthpop.

They released ten albums between 1980 and 1994 and reformed in 2001, but Boon left the group in 1987 after a period of chronic illness and panic attacks on stage.

However, he continues to write songs for the group and, in 2012, he meets Mark and Mike Lindup for a unique appearance in Bristol, where he plays Heathrow and Love Games.

He welcomed two children, Chani and Solomon.
