Peter Mayhew, the actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars movies, died at the age of 74, said his family.
He died at his home in Texas on April 30 with his family at his side, a statement said. They did not say what was the cause of his death.
Mayhew played the warrior Wookiee Chewbacca in the original trilogy beginning in 1977 as well as in more recent films.
"He put his heart and soul in the role of Chewbacca and it was visible in all areas," said his family.
He is survived by his wife Angie and three children.
