Former Spanish striker Arsenal and Jose Jose Reyes drove more than 220 kilometers to the hour when his car crashed, confirmed the Spanish police.
Reyes' funeral took place Monday in his hometown of Utrera, following Saturday's fatal accident.
Aged 35, he was registered at the time of his death with the Spanish group second division Extremadura, after signing a short-term contract earlier this year. A statement from the former club of Seville, which announced the death of Reyes, said his cousin, Jonathan Reyes, also died in the crash of the A-376 in Spain.

The Guardia Civil confirmed Tuesday to the Press Association that an investigation into the incident was continuing, as the "main cause" has not yet been found to be the sole determining factor .
They said that the former man of Arsenal was the driver of the car. "The maximum speed allowed in the region is 120 km / h. We can confirm that (the speed of the vehicle) was the main cause of the accident, "said a spokesman for the Guardia Civil. "Our investigation remains open, we do not know if there are other causes of the accident. But for now, we can confirm that the main cause was speed, it exceeded 220 km / h. At Reyes' funeral, his coffin was draped with the Seville flag, where the attacker crossed the ranks before returning. In 2012, he won three Europa League titles under the orders of Arsenal's current boss, Unai Emery.
Emery and Arsene Wenger, former coach of the Gunners, were among those who paid tribute to their compatriots, as well as their teammates and other players.
The final of the Champions League on Saturday between Liverpool and Tottenham, hosted by another former Reyes club, Atletico Madrid, was preceded by a period of reflection after the news earlier in the day.
With 21 caps for Spain, Reyes left Sevilla for Arsenal in January 2004 and was part of the 'Invincibles' team which has been unbeaten this season to win the Premier League.
He also won the 2005 England Cup despite his expulsion in the final against Manchester United, before a loan to Real Madrid allowed Reyes to win the Spanish LaLiga title.
After two victories in the Europa League after a permanent move to Atleti, his return to Seville in 2012 earned him the trophy three more times.
