Czech football player Josef Sural died after his minibus, as well as many players from Alanyaspor, crashed back from a match when he was 28 years old.

Sural, the attacker of the Turkish high-flying club Alanyaspor and the Czech national team, died at the hospital where he and six of his teammates were taken after the accident, a announced the club on Twitter Monday morning.

Seven players from Alanyaspor rented a VIP minibus for the club 's 1-1 draw against Kayserispor on Sunday, when their vehicle crashed about five kilometers from the coastal town of Alanya, in the south of the coast, announced the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

Former Tottenham defender, Queens Park Rangers and Steven Liverpool, Steven Caulker, was also involved in the accident, as did former Newcastle United striker, Papiss Cisse. Both were reported to have suffered minor injuries.

The other players and club members came back with the team bus or alone, said Anadolu, adding that the VIP bus driver had been arrested as a result of the accident and that a investigation had been opened.

Club president Hasan Cavusoglu was quoted as saying that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel of the minibus. A second driver was asleep at the time.

He stated that the other six players injured in the accident were not in critical condition.

Sural has played 20 times for his country after his international debut in 2013, including a participation in Euro 2016, scoring once in the 3-2 qualifier win against the Netherlands in October 2015.

His last appearance in the Czech Republic was played against Ukraine last October. During his career, he played for Czech teams FC Brno, FC Slovan Liberec and Sparta Prague. He holds a prolific record in the Czech first division, scoring 30 times in 113 matches for Liberec and 20 times in 67 games with Sparta Prague.
