On June 3rd, the Decemberists will perform in their hometown of Portland, Oregon, to raise funds for Tucker Martine (who co-produced The woman of the craneand his studio, Flora, which was stolen last month. Martine's studio has been a frequent recording venue for Decemberists, who have used this space through its multiple locations and adaptations. in the basement of Martine, a barn in Happy Valley, Oregon, and a studio in North Portland. Unfortunately, a new iteration of Flora has been stripped of equipment worth about $ 70,000.
In an e-mail addressed to the Decemberists mailing list, Colin Meloy announced that he would be playing with his band "What Could Be Our Only Show in 2019" at the Portland Crystal Ballroom alongside Blind Pilot and "some guests still unannounced. "" We are determined to help Tucker get back on his feet, recover or replace the stolen material, and complete this last and best iteration of Flora's recording and reading " , wrote Meloy. Adored Mailing List Recipients,
We have good news and bad news.
The bad news is that our friend Tucker Martine's workshop, Flora, was stolen last month. Burglars have stolen about $ 70,000 in guitars, microphones and various equipment, much of which is irreplaceable. The studio was still a work in progress when the flight took place; Tucker had just bought the place, transferred all his belongings to the old Flora and was in the process of completing the construction of what would become Flora's fifth and final home. You can imagine what kind of success it would be, both financially and emotionally. Tucker and his family are heartbroken and try to move on and finish the studio, while facing an insurance company that has been difficult after the flight.
As you probably know, the relationship of the Decemberists with Tucker and Flora goes back a very long time. He co-produced The Crane Wife with Chris Walla in 2006. We recorded three other records with Tucker, regardless of Flora's version badembled at the time: Flora was Tucker's basement; It was a barn in Happy Valley, Ontario, where he had moved most of his outdoor equipment during a recording session; it was, later, a well-appointed studio in North Portland. We made unique recordings, demos and EPs at Flora with Tucker. I've recorded two audio books, the second and third Wildwood books, at Flora's. Most of my vocal recordings currently recorded around the world on songs and records were recorded on the microphones stolen from Flora a month ago.
So that's the bad news.
The good news is this: we are determined to help Tucker get back on his feet, recover or replace the stolen material, and complete this latest and best iteration of Flora Recording and Playback. We decided to contact friends and organize a benefit concert.
In what may be our one and only show in 2019, The Decemberists will perform at the Crystal Ballroom on June 3 with Blind Pilot and a few other guests not yet announced. All proceeds from this concert will go to a fund to help cover the cost of the flight to Flora. If you wish to support more, a Gofundme campaign is also underway. No matter what amount helps!
We'd love it if you showed your support for Tucker, his family and his studio.
Yours,
Colin Meloy
