Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed accused Defense Minister Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul of deploying military personnel amid a chaotic scene in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Talk to JoyNews after the suspension of the House before the presidential inauguration, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed insisted that Dominic Nitiwul had appealed to invite military officers into the House of Parliament.
“I know for a fact and I told him when he made the call, I told him it wasn’t necessary, I told him it would be a blur on the integrity of this House.”
His comment comes after security personnel stormed parliament following unrest during the inauguration of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Army and police officers who were heavily armed officers dressed in all their costumes marched to the Parliament floor to restore calm after some elected MPs on the NDC side disrupted the electoral process for a new president of bedroom.
Murtala Mohammed argued that the presence of military and police personnel in Parliament was dangerous and unacceptable.
He said the unprecedented behavior of the military in the history of Ghana’s democratic regime calls for an investigation.
He said MPs should understand the reason for inviting security officers.
“I will insist that there be a proper investigation into the question of who invited military officers to Parliament and the reasons behind it … I don’t think that’s also acceptable.”
