Dele Alli believes that Tottenham can use his broken heart in the Champions League as a springboard for lasting success.
Mauricio Pochettino's men surpbaded all expectations last season by qualifying for the European Elite final and placing in the top four in the Premier League.
Madrid was just a big disappointment, while Liverpool won 2-0 to become European Champion for the sixth time.
Alli took leave of the pre-season preparations of the Spurs in the Far East to say: "Obviously, it was difficult to bear: to go to the final and not to exceed the finish line.
"It was an excellent campaign but it was heartbreaking not to have won the final.
"We are disappointed as a team, but we must try to use them to our advantage for next season.
"We have to take the positives and try to use them to lead us this season.
"We just have to try to use it as an advantage and use the hurt we felt after the match – and the pain we still feel when we think about it.
"We just have to try to use that to train as much as we can in the next season."
Pochettino has put his team to the test in Asia.
The Spurs beat Juventus 3-2 in Singapore on Saturday – thanks to Harry Kane's miracle attack.
And Thursday night in Shanghai, they meet Manchester United.
Alli, Kane and Erik Lamela took the time to take 100 young Chinese aged six to ten on Tuesday, after temperatures close to 100 degrees, after the children were mentored by a team of coaches of the club's international football development. .
Then, Kane received a cake to celebrate his 26th birthday on Sunday.
Alli enjoyed his summer vacation after 12 months of grinding that began with the World Cup last year and ended in June at the League of Nations.
And the English midfielder is hoping that the hamstring and thigh muscle problems that plague him last season are now healed.
Alli said: "It was obviously a tough season for me in terms of injuries.
"It's the greatest number of injuries I've ever had in a season, but I have to move forward now and not think about it negatively.
"Every time I hurt myself, I tried to come back as hard as I could, to take a break and to take advantage of my time to work on tasks that did not correspond to reality, to continue building and to return more strong.
"But I have to keep working on these things all season long. I feel that I have used the time well.
"But it's difficult – not only physically but also mentally. You have to dig deep.
"Sitting in the treatment room and watching the guys train and watching the games is not nice.
"We had a good season as a team, but individually, I was disappointed with injuries. I have to make sure this does not happen again. "
With England co-organizing next summer's Euros – the two semi-finals and the final will be played at Wembley – Alli dreams of being able to fight for club and country glory.
He said: "Competition is always good.
"For England, we are also going in the right direction. It's very similar to here in Tottenham.
"We have a young team, we have been together for a while with the manager and it's exciting.
"A huge tournament is coming and we have to continue to prove that we deserve to be part of the team.
"It's not going to be easy. But it's exciting and I'm going to be as good as I can for my club and my country. "
