Mentioning a significant increase in the number of dengue cases in some provinces compared to last year, Tarmizi said spraying and insecticides were being carried out in the streets and neighborhoods in order to prevent the disease.
Mosquitoes carrying malaria and dengue occur more frequently, especially during the rainy season from October to April, while scientists warn that high temperatures and prolonged rains lead to increased mosquito breeding.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that occurs in tropical and subtropical climates around the world, mainly in urban and semi-urban areas. According to the World Health Organization, the infection causes a flu-like illness and sometimes evolves into a life-threatening complication called severe dengue fever.
In Indonesia, dengue killed about 600 people in 2016 and about 500 more in 2017.
