“Denmark flew blind! – Kane equals England scoring record as penalty kick sees Euro 2020 semi-final erupt into controversy

The Three Lions face Italy in the final but their extra time winner will be debated for some time

Harry Kane tied Gary Lineker’s record for the most combined goals for England at the European Championships and World Cups, but his overtime winner against Denmark sparked huge controversy.

Raheem Sterling came through the Danish defense in Euro 2020 semi-final overtime and fell into the box after what appeared to be minimal contact.

But the referee still pointed the finger and although Kasper Schmeichel saved Kane’s penalty, the England captain buried the rebound to send the Three Lions to the final with a 2-1 victory.

Kane’s record

The goal was Kane’s fourth for Euro 2020 after starting the tournament with three consecutive scoreless games in the group stage.

Kane won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup scoring six goals, making Wednesday’s strike against Denmark their 10th in a major tournament.

Lineker previously held the England record with Kane’s next goal being to see him own the brand on his own.

A controversial sanction

Kane’s record, however, has been overshadowed by the penalty debate. Sterling appeared to descend into the box fairly easily, setting off a fire storm on social media.
