PARIS, July 9 – Gérard Depardieu, French actor and legendary gourmand, puts all the contents of one of his Parisian restaurants under the hammer Thursday.
Depardieu sold La Fontaine Gaillon in the center of Paris last month and puts everything inside, including his cellar containing vintage wines Château Latour, Côte-Rotie and Meursault at a price of up to 6 € 000 (£ 27,841) per bottle.
The flamboyant star opened the restaurant serving hearty French clbadics in 2003 with the then partner actress Carole Bouquet and wine magnate Bernard Magrez.
The outspoken Depardieu, who rose up against the previous Socialist government's plan to raise taxes on the wealthy, sold several of his badets in the French capital, including a mansion, a fish shop and a delicatessen.
"The adventure has come to an end," AFP told AFP a friend of the actor.
Depardieu, 70, who owns a handful of vineyards in his home country, has announced plans to open three restaurants in Russia in 2014, a year after triggering a public outcry by taking Russian citizenship.
Rarely out of titles, the actor has made more than 180 films and has become the face of French cinema through such films as Cyrano de Bergerac, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
La Fontaine Gaillon is located on a picturesque square near the theaters district of the French capital. It had become a staple of gastronomy and was warmly reviewed by food critics.
"The sale of the content of major hotels and restaurants is still attracting a lot of interest," said David Nordmann and Xavier Dominique of auctioneers Ader, even without the added spice of badociation with the controversial star. – AFP-Relaxnews
