Derby County has announced that midfielder Tom Huddlestone has extended his stay with the championship club until the end of next season.

The 32-year contract included an option to extend an additional 12 months on the basis of appearances, and the clause in his contract has now been triggered.

Huddlestone, who has climbed the ladder in Derby and made his debut for them at the age of 16 in August 2003, joined the East Midlanders in 2017.

He ended his first stay in 2005 by settling in Tottenham Hotspur. After spending eight years with Spurs and four years with Hull City, he returned to Pride Park.

Huddlestone played 47 times in all competitions last season and made 26 appearances under Frank Lampard this quarter.

Derby has announced the news on his website and on his social networks:

Here's how some of the Rams faithful reacted to the news, with an almost equal mixture of happiness and disappointment:

It's a good move for the club.

I can not pretend he's amazing, but he does a job. Very kind.

Good news. Happy with that.

Disagree (which is not often the case) We certainly miss his range when he does not play.
