Derby County entered administration amid continuing financial problems at the club.

Andrew Hosking, Carl Jackson and Andrew Andronikou, managing directors of business consulting firm Quantuma, have been named co-directors of the Sky Bet Championship club, which owner Mel Morris says loses between 1.3 and 1.5 million pounds sterling per month.

Hosking said: “Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the club’s finances and its long-term ability to continue in its current form.

“We recognize that with the start of the 2021/22 season last month, this news will be of concern to stakeholders and fans, in addition to the city of Derby and the football community at large.

Wayne Rooney said on Saturday he was ‘heartbroken’ for Derby staff who are likely to lose their jobs following the club’s entry into administration

“We are in the early stages of evaluating the options available to the club and invite all interested parties to come forward.

“Our immediate goals are to make sure the club completes all of its league games this season and to find interested parties to protect the club and its employees.”

Morris claims he spent over £ 200million of his own money trying to get Derby into the Premier League, but admits he failed and apologized to staff and fans.

The owner also said previously Sky Sports News he was “devastated” by the situation and cited the financial impact of Covid-19 and a series of failed takeover attempts as the cause of the mess.

Staff members are widely concerned about the job losses with manager Wayne Rooney speaking after Saturday’s victory over Stoke City saying the situation for all perils was “heartbreaking.”

The announcement will see Derby face an automatic 12-point deduction, which could reach 21 points in total, as the club are in talks with the EFL over an alleged violation of Financial Fair Play rules.

Derby County are currently 12th in the Championship with 10 points in their first eight games.
