Presenters Dermot O 'Leary, Ant and Dec plan to meet after their ticking dispute over this year's National Television Awards.

Guests at Geordie wanted a "good retirement" for Dermot, who won the Best Presenter Award for the 18th consecutive year, accepting his video link award from UK-based Got Talent Studios.

Their search took place after Dermot had joked about the fact that he would stop playing if both players beat Holly Willoughby, Philip Schofield and Bradley Walsh again this year despite Ant's long break.

However, speaking on the Series Linked podcast – hosted by Emma Bullimore and Mark Jefferies – Dermot revealed he had no grudge against the stars of Saturday Night Takeaway.

Dermot insists that he's still close with Ant and Dec

"The NTAs were very fun and it's a joke I've been doing for five years," he said.

"I texted Ant and Dec about 20 minutes after the show, I just said" thanks for that "and they said" we could not resist it, let's have dinner in a few weeks "."

While Dermot insists that the search is nothing more than a light gag, Ant called him "stupid" for making this comment and revealed that he apologized immediately afterwards.

On Sunday he told the Sun: "He was joking a bit, I say a little bit because it's one of those nonsense to say that it's going to be taken seriously.

Ant and Dec win the gong for the 18th year in a row

"He said:" Oh, my God, I'm really sorry … "I asked him to fight in the school yard by answering:" 15h, schoolbooks off & on. " Then I said: "Look, I understand, no worries."

Ant and Dec were excited about their unexpected win this year, after Ant only featured part of Saturday Night Takeaway and British Got Talent auditions before going on re-education after his arrest for drunken driving.

In his acceptance speech, Ant said, "Thank you, it's a real shock, especially this year: I'm shaking."

Presenter Geordie added, "I really do not feel able to accept this award this year. [pointing to Dec] for his hard work, dedication, wit and humor and to be the best friend ever, I love you, man. "

Dec also thanked the voters for staying true to him and Ant, adding, "Thank you all for their kind and thoughtful messages, they have allowed us to continue over the last year – this year probably more than ever."
