FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Deutsche Bank announced on Sunday that it intends to negotiate a merger with German lending bank Commerzbank, according to one informed person.
The planned official publication increases the chances of reaching a rapprochement of the two largest banks in the country, subject to speculation for a long time, that the German government has pushed forward because of concerns about the health of the flagship bank from the country.
Deutsche Bank declined to comment, while Commerzbank also had no comment.
Earlier this month, a person familiar with the case told Reuters that Deutsche Bank 's board of directors had agreed to talk to Commerzbank about the feasibility of a merger. .
