The Dev de Rakul Preet will be on the screens on February 14th.

The actor Rakul Preet is ready for Dev, which happens to be his first release this year. After Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, it is the second time that Rakul and Karthi appear on the screen together. In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com, Rakul talks about the project, his company and much more.

Here are excerpts from the conversation:

Q. This is your second movie with Karthi. How was the experience?

He is extremely talented and grounded. It does not look on itself. There are some people with whom you connect. Even when I worked with him for the first time at Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, we clicked. We are quite similar on sets. We discuss our blows and talk to each other. So, I guess it's the camaraderie that people can see on the screen and I hope they'll like us in Dev too.

Q. Tell us about your character.

She is an active and very independent woman. She does not have time for love and nonsense except for her work and her mother, played by Ramya Krishnan. You can call a very strong person. So pretty well in layers.

Q. What is Dev?

What I can tell you is that Dev is a story of two contrasting characters and how they come together and how their lives change.

Q. Your next is NGK. To what extent does your role in thet movie?

NGK is very different. I could not tell you a lot, but let's just say it's more political. Selva sir is known for his best performances. So, yes, I can not wait to be there.

Q. Why did you take so long to sign a Telugu movie?

It was not like I took a long break. I signed Venky Mama last year, but everyone was shooting different movies so we could not start shooting. During that time, I was busy with five movies. I shot three Tamil movies. It just happened that I signed the movie NGK, Dev, Siva Karthikeyan and that I turn De Pyaar De with Ajay Devgn, with a program of 80 to 100 days. And now, I'm working on Marjawaan with Sidharth Malhotra. So, it is not about Telugu or Tamil, I worked day and night.

Q. Considering this, can we say that you become a pan-Indian actor?

I do not try to be one. I take everything that comes to me. I go by instinct. I do not think too much or not here to prove anything to anyone. I just want to make good movies regardless of the industry.

Q. Your Telugu Spyder movie was not much appreciated. Did it affect you?

I had flops before. Nobody had a 100% success rate at the box office. For me, it was the experience of working with Mahesh Babu and AR Murugadoss that mattered. If the movie did not work, it's good.

Q. How do you select the scripts?

It depends. Sometimes you have dream directors and when they approach, you do not ask them about the character and its importance. You would like to do it anyway. Sometimes the script is too good. So, I'm going to say that I go by guts.

Q. You started your gym. Tell us about that

I am very happy to have started this business and it is something that fascinates me enormously. What makes me happy is when people tell me how I changed their lives. People suffer from depression because of being overweight or because they do not like their appearance. I have received letters from people thanking me for this initiative. It gives me great happiness to be able to give them a positive vision.
