GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) – Greenwood School District 50 announced Friday that DHEC has confirmed a case of tuberculosis at Emerald High School.
In a letter sent to parents, DHEC stated that the person had been isolated and that she was no longer in school.
"We were informed Wednesday of a possible case of tuberculosis at Emerald High School," said Superintendent Darrell Johnson in the letter. "On Thursday, we met with DHEC and began an in-depth investigation into the situation. DHEC has identified an individual with TB in school today. DHEC immediately sent letters to school members who may have been in contact with the person with a confirmed TB case. Emerald's students, staff, and parents have been informed that we are working closely with DHEC to ensure that everyone at school is healthy and safe. We are very concerned about the health and well-being of this person, as well as every student and adult in our district. "
