Prince Harry and Markle were special guests at this exclusive event and expectations of their appearance at the premiere of the film were great.
Beyonce and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, were also at the party. Although it was suspected that Beyonce would eventually cross with the royal couple, no one could have predicted the degree of vigilance that their interaction would receive in the coming weeks.
Beyonce's admiration for Meghan Markle was obvious
According to reports, each guest at the premiere was prepared in advance and provided with specific rules on how to greet Markle and Prince Harry. Some of the rules stated that no one should kiss one of the members of the royal family, no one should ask for a selfie and no one should answer unless they were contacted first. Everyone was also asked to address Markle or Prince Harry "Your Royal Highness". Although it may seem that these rules are strict, they are in fact fairly standard. However, not everyone would abide by the code of conduct communicated before the event.
When Markle and Prince Harry arrived at the place where Beyonce and Jay-Z were in the reception queue, Beyonce gave up all formality. The iconic singer called Markle "my princess" and gave her an affectionate hug – none of the stiff handshakes that figured in the rule book of the royal meeting. The two women briefly discussed before Markle and Prince Harry were forced to go further in the queue and meet more guests.
Is Meghan Markle angry with Beyonce for breaking the royal rules?
There is no doubt that Beyonce violated many of the royal rules she had to follow when meeting Markle. Nobody knows if she was punished privately or not, although that seems unlikely. After all, Beyonce is rarefied in the world of celebrity culture and she tends to follow her own rules.
One thing is certain, Markle certainly did not seem bothered by Beyonce's affectionate greetings at the film's premiere. She replied with a hug when Beyonce gave it to him and her smile sounded sincere and delighted.
