Catherine Afeku, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture
President Akuffo-Addo delivered his 2019 State of the Nation address to the Ghana Parliament on February 21, with the aim of significantly improving Ghana's tourism and creative arts sector. This, revealed the president, is a grant approved by the World Bank.
While this is good news to some extent, Austine Woode, also known as "The Researcher", a popular radio presenter at the EIB's Abusua FM radio station in Kumasi, has written a sweet letter of love explaining with force why he believes in the appointment of Mrs. Catherine Afeku. as minister responsible for tourism and creative arts has not helped the ministry, it can be described as totally false.
Check out his complete article made available to zionfelix.net below:
President Akufo Addo, since becoming President in 2017, has been a great badet in improving the fortunes of the creative arts sector, which makes a significant contribution to the Ghanaian economy. Since the beginning of the 4th Republic, no presidential candidate in Ghana has as many creative art players as President Akufo Addo supporting his candidacy.
The President has repeatedly stated his commitment to strengthen the industry, but I begin to believe that the appointment of Catherine Afeku to the position of Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts was a bad decision that would impede the progress that this industry has made. much needed.
In another article, I will talk about the reasons for my badertion above, but today I want to focus on the construction of the theaters promised in the manifesto of the nuclear power plant, what the president said in the state of the 2019 address (SONA2019) and lies Mrs. Catherine Afeku feeds the Ghanaian public.
On January 4, 2019, I was invited to cover the launch of the rehabilitation of "Apatakesie ase" of Kumasi Cultural Center. At this event, Ghanaian actor Bill Asamoah, during question period, specifically asked Minister Catherine Afeku: "Madam, we know that the NPP promised in its manifesto for 2016 to build a state-of-the-art theater. in all regional capitals with the exception of Accra. Please, is this the one we are launching here or that one is different?
In her response, Ms. Catherine Afeku categorically stated that it was 2 different projects and that the players in the sector should remain calm, as the theaters promised in their 2016 manifesto will also be delivered. The Bantamahene representative also said that in the Ashanti region, we should be grateful to the NPP government for taking the bold step of renovating the "Apatakesie ase" and we will trust the Minister to present the manifesto in the future .
In a meeting with President Akufo Addo's media, radio presenter Kwame Adinkrah asked about the construction of the Kumasi Theater. The President stated that the Minister was not present but that he would question her on this matter. At SONA2019, President Akufo Addo said: "The East Regional Theater has been completed and work is under way for the construction of the Kumasi Theater". I will respectfully say to the President that what he said to Parliament is not true and that he must return these theaters.
The renovation of the cultural center of the Eastern Region is never a theater construction, as the president would say. Linking this to Kumasi as well and saying that Kumasi's theater is ongoing is not a faithful representation of the facts. There is no construction of a theater in Kumasi, which is what the president was referring to.
For the sake of clarity, I extracted what the NPP actually said in the 2016 manifesto that said: n. Continue the construction of major modern theaters in all regional capitals except Accra, starting with Takoradi, Tamale and Kumasi, as well as the creation of another copyright office in Tamale for the northern sector, in addition to existing offices in Kumasi.
In the light of the above, is President Akufo Addo telling Ghanaians that renovation is equivalent to construction? No, because after SONA2019, Adom TV interviewed Mrs. Catherine Afeku and she said that what they promised in the manifesto was completed and on paper. So, madam, when will the paper come to fruition and what briefing has the president had to say that the theater in the eastern region has been completed?
How is it that the area minister continues to say something other than what the president has said to the whole country? Is the president really the man responsible? Is he still pbadionate about the creative arts sector, as he has shown in the opposition, or did he only need the support of industry players? Ms. Catherine Afeku failed the president and failed to improve the industry. The President dismissed him or apologized for not telling the truth to the Ghanaians. May God bless our country, Ghana, and make our nation great and strong.
