Last Friday, Netflix's adaptation of Gerard Way's The Umbrella Academy is finally available.
We played a lot at once and learned a lot, but we are clearly not as fearful as the residents of Reddit, who spotted Easter eggs throughout the series.
More particularly, in the first episode of the series, Gerard, creator of The Umbrella Academy, appears on the back of the autobiography of Vayna Hargreeves, and there is even a small invented quote from the man himself on this subject.
The copy reads as follows:
Vanya Hargreeves is well known for her virtuoso violinist talents. The role she played as one of Reginald Hargreeves' adopted children, alongside the famous Umbrella Academy super-child, is less well understood, but never counted among them. This is his story, in his own words.
"An incredible reading … A revealing portal on the incredible life of Vanya Hargreeves and the life she has lived. I could not let it down! "- Gerard Way
At the Umbrella Academy black carpet premiere in Hollywood last week, Gerard talked about the message of his entire story.
The musician and writer told Variety that his message was: "We are all messed up and we will have more ease if we do this together".
"I read a lot of things, like Grant Morrison's comics, Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol and Mike Mignola's Hellboy, and I wanted to make a postmodern superhero story," said Gerard. "And then, I wrote all those things that interested me and I tried to create characters from them."
