Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly match in the United States. Diego Costa was heavily involved in a dramatic night in New Jersey.

The former Chelsea striker scored four goals in a 7-3 win for Diego Simeone's side before being sent off alongside Real's back-to-back Dani Carvajal in the second half.

Costa was in excellent form in the International Champions League match, mixing Real's defense with new signing Joao Felix as his team progressed 5-0 at half-time.

Felix, signed by Benfica for £ 113m, played on the Costa to open the scoring in the first minute of the match as his deflected shot went past former Chelsea teammate Thibaut Courtois before Felix 19-year-old, only doubles the lead-of about seven minutes later.

A volley from Angel Correa allowed Atletico to take control before a mistake by Sergio Ramos allowed Saul to jump in to prepare Costa for his second.

The hat-trick followed half-time from the penalty kick, Luka Modric was forced to execute, injuring his opponent's knee, to the misery of Real manager Zinedine Zidane.

Felix and Costa resumed the match with the latter, pushing Keylor Navas to score 6-0 before Nacho reduced the score at Real Madrid.

Costa and Carvajal were later fired for their role in a mbad brawl.

Vitolo raised the score to 7-1 before Karim Benzema and Javi Hernandez Carrera reduced their goals late in the game to reduce the score to four.

Gareth Bale was replaced on the eve of his transfer to the Chinese Super League, where he is expected to win 1 million pounds a week in Jiangsu Suning.
