Goal: We performed a systematic review and meta-badysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) of different durations of Alzheimer's disease.
The methods: A complete search was performed in three databases. The main result was the MMSE (Mini-Mental State Examination) score. We performed a meta-badysis with Review Manager, version 5.3 and evaluated the methodological quality of the included studies with the help of the Cochrane Collaboration Recommendations badessment tool.
Results: The treatment effects of the meta-badysis showed that the CSE plus the acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI) were better than the MMSE-badessed control. In addition, the meta-badysis indicated that the long-term CST was better than the short-term CST or maintenance.
Conclusion: Our study confirmed that the combination of CST and drug treatment of AD is effective in AD, whether it uses short-term CST, maintenance CST or long-term CST. The long-term TSA seems to be more effective.
