Dimitar Berbatov identifies future Man Utd striker for Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial

Dimitar Berbatov thinks that Romelu Lukaku should be recalled to the Manchester United team for the fifth round of the FA Cup against Chelsea in the absence of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

The two men were injured in United's 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, with Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata replacing them.

Sanchez and Mata failed to make a tangible impact on the encounter. Lukaku came close to frustrated numbers on the bench before his six-minute comeback in place of Marcus Rashford.

PSG became the first team in history to leave Old Trafford at a European night with a margin of victory greater than a goal.

And Berbatov thinks that United's acting chief, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, should turn to Lukaku for United's trip to Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

"I'm sure Lukaku will have a chance now and that he will take advantage of the opportunity to plead his case for a regular spot in the first team," said former United striker Betfair.

Sanchez's show was particularly disturbing for United fans. The Chilean winger had not convinced Old Trafford since his change to Arsenal 13 months ago.

Berbatov thinks the 30-year-old is trying too hard to impress United.

"Sanchez looks a bit lost on the ground right now," he said.

"He tries almost too much and complicates things too much, which then leads to more mistakes.

"He's been in the club for a while now and people will think he should have adapted more to the team – that's what the training sessions are all about.

"Sanchez needs time to find his pace, but when Rashford and Martial are in shape, they play, so it's hard for him.

"If he continues to complicate things too much, it will not work."
