Disability rights advocates gather before hearing in court about court action for subway access – CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Disability rights advocates gathered Wednesday morning before court hearing on access to the subway.

Dozens of people waved placards and chanted rights of access on the steps of the state courthouse.

Several groups are continuing the MTA, claiming that it routinely excludes people with disabilities by not providing access to the stations. They say only a quarter are accessible to people with disabilities.

"Metro elevators will benefit everyone: seniors, pregnant women and people with luggage. Lack of access to transportation is a violation of our rights, "said Monica Bartley of the Center for Disability Independence in New York.
