In just over a month, since we published the sad story of 13-year-old Yamkela Mafiyane, located just outside Mthatha, who suffers from a rare condition that has made his lower limbs dysfunctional, a person gracious reached out to help by donating a wheelchair.
Ahead of the wheelchair delivery this week, the family’s anonymous donor also helped with two grocery vouchers worth R 2,000 each. The donor has requested anonymity, but her incredible kindness will never be overlooked.
The wheelchair was couriered to the Mthatha homestead with Yamkela’s mother on the moon rejoicing as the days of pushing her disabled daughter into a plastic tub are over.

“I never thought that would happen to me, I have no words on how I can thank the person who donated.”

For Yamkela, being able to receive the wheelchair so quickly after her mother has been devastated by her situation, means a new dawn for the family because she will at least be leaving her with other children; life will be better.
According to the donor, when describing the wheelchair, she says it is custom designed for Yamkela’s body size and condition.

With it, she will be able to move comfortably around the house and she will be able to access the television and the refrigerator. The wheelchair is made so that she can move around and do a few things without anyone’s help but under supervision.
The anonymous donor said:
“This wheelchair will change the life of the young girl for the better and for the greater in her own personal growth.”
