Ghana's Dynamic Youth Movement (DYMOG) has condemned what it describes as a "bloodbath" in the series of violent attacks that tainted the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday.

In a statement signed by Daniel Blaise Annang Jrr, director of the movement's communications, the acts of barbarity displayed clearly indicate that the election is in a bad light and constitutes an affront to the country's 25 years of democracy.

"Ghana's Dynamic Youth Movement totally condemns the barbarism that characterized the by-elections of Ayawaso West-Wuogon. We witnessed badaults, live ammunition and intimidation that totally blurred the elections. "

"We urge the Ghanaian police to shed light on the unidentified men in uniform who perpetrated these acts of violence. Failure to do so will further diminish citizens' confidence in the police, "the statement added.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances that resulted in shooting at a polling center in La Bawaleshie, injuring about six people suspected of being supporters of the National Democratic Congress in Thursday's elections.

The NDC chose not to participate in the race because of alleged attacks that they believe would have been orchestrated by people linked to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Violence has been widely condemned by Ghanaians and civil society organizations.

OccupyGhana also added its voice to the general condemnation and called for the culprits to be brought to justice.

Complete statement from DYMOG

"The Dynamic Youth Movement of Ghana totally condemns the barbarity that has characterized Ayawaso West-Wuogon by elections. We saw badaults, live ammunition and intimidation that completely blurred the election.

These unnecessary acts have not only cast a shadow over the by-elections, but have also denigrated the enviable electoral goodwill we have gained since 1992.

We urge the Ghanaian police to provide details of the unidentified men in uniform who perpetrated these acts of violence. Failure to do so will further mitigate the attitude of citizens towards the police.

The international community should also be inspired by this shameful spectacle and take steps to help Ghana organize peaceful and successful elections in 2020. "
