The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications warned mobile phone users to be wary of counterfeit products.

According to the Telecommunications Chamber, fake phones pose many risks to the health of the user and also compromise the quality of service.

Chamber President and CEO, Ken Ashigbey, said at a program celebrating this year's World Consumer Rights Day that counterfeit phones were cloned versions of popular brands and models and were generally manufactured from non-standard materials, which means users have been exposed to higher radiation.

"It is unfortunate to know that these fake phones have an impact on the quality of service of the network operators, offering customers a poor user experience," he said.

Mr. Ashigbey said that fake mobile devices were generally not tested and certified, and were often made from inexpensive components.

He has therefore urged the public to purchase his cell phones, devices and accessories from reliable and accredited manufacturers and resellers of equipment, which could provide a way to verify the authenticity of their products.

Ashigbey said consumers have rights and responsibilities that need to be protected.

"We will work with customers to ensure that they do not compromise data security and privacy when they have access to these new services, more responsive products, comfort and choice." increased, "he added.
