Michael Kwabena Okyere Darko, renowned hiplife artist, no longer wants to be called by his stage name, "Obrafour".
The rapper, who became known by the release in 1999 of his album entitled "Pae Mu Ka", decided to drop his stage name.
In an interview with Franky 5 on "This Is Gospel" on Hitz FM, the artist revealed that he preferred the name "Rap Sofo".
"Now I do not want to be called Obrafour. I say it for the first time here, "said the rapper.
When asked why he had decided to abandon the name "Obrafour" and stick to "Rap Sofo", he stated that he was divinely encouraged to use this latest.
"I do not know, there is something pushing me in. I said that I would not want to do anything of my own free will but that I was waiting to hear the voice of God," he added.
The rapper also revealed that the word twi "sofo", which means that Pastor had affected him since the accolade "Rap Sofo" had been added to his stage name, "Obrafour".
Michael Kwabena Okyere Darko said he chose the name "Obrafour", which means hangman, early in his career, although he was initially called "Rap Sofo" because he wanted to clean up the music hiplife.
He explained that the genre had been considered by many, especially the elderly, as devoid of significant content.
"I realized that Hiplife at that time was reserved for young people. The elderly did not belong to it because the words of the songs of that time conveyed no meaning. People thought it was an empty noise. So I told myself that it would take someone of the caliber of the palace hangman to bring mental health to Hiplife, "he said.
The rapper said his friends initially called him "Rap Sofo" because the content of his songs was "deeply cut".
He added that he chose to add "Obrafour" to "Rap Sofo" at the time because of his desire to purge the genre of any negativity.
But he has already gone beyond this stage and only wants to be known as Rap Sofo.
