Residents of the Kumasi metropolis were urged to refrain from politicizing Kejetia's plans and redeveloping the central market, particularly with regard to the relocation of traders.
Nana Agyenim Boateng, Amoamanhene, who is also chair of Kejetia's Validation and Verification Monitoring Committee, said the project was being executed in the best interest of both parties.
"We are not satisfied with the way some politicians want to play politics with this project which is very sensitive to the population," he told the media in Kumasi, noting that the committee was on the right track for the roadmap the regulation has been duly followed.
"I can say with confidence that Osantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is keen to ensure that the right thing is done in the interest of the traders.
"It is for this reason that he has been seen involved in all aspects of the implementation and completion of the project," Nana Boateng explained.
Reaction to the NDC
He was reacting to a threat from the regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NCD) of Ashanti to hold a protest if the traders affected by the project were not resettled at the end of January from this year.
The party argued that it had information that the first phase of the project was officially over and that officials were intentionally delaying settlement of merchants in stores located in the facility.
Work on the first phase of the multi-million dollar project began in 2015 and was scheduled to be completed in January 2019, but could not be completed due to legal issues.
Nana Boateng said the oversight committee had carried out numerous validation and verification processes, saying that all other things being equal, merchants would soon be resettled.
"We are working tirelessly to see the validated traders move to finished stores by March this year.
The committee is therefore meticulous in dealing with all outstanding issues in order to ensure a smooth resettlement program, free from any misunderstanding on the part of merchants, "said the president.
He pointed out that plans were in place to issue E-zwich cards to store owners to help pay rental fees to help them access the facilities, adding that this was done in relation to selected banks. . – GNA
