The reverend professor Emmanuel K. Asante, president of the National Peace Council, said he was worried about the way in which questions about witchcraft had dominated some Christian societies in the country.
"We have to be careful about how we accuse innocent people of witchcraft.
"It is an unhealthy development that some Christians, through ignorance and sometimes under the influence of so-called men of God, go so far as to accuse even their parents of witchcraft," said Bishop Asante.
Pronouncing the sermon at a special service held in Kumasi by Adum Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church of Ghana, on the occasion of the death of Jesus Christ (Good Friday), he put warn the faithful against such a trend.
Bishop Asante, former bishop president of the Methodist Church, urged the congregation to look to the future with hope.
"Our failures, curses and shame have been removed by Christ, so we should look to the future with optimism," he said.
The President of the Peace Council reminded the population that no one was right, and that everyone should therefore forgive themselves for the wrongs done.
In addition, Pastor Kofi Effah-Ababio, Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, implored Ghanaians to strive to advance the cause of peace and unity in society.
Preaching to the Oforikrom Victory Congregation of the Church of the Municipality of Oforikrom, he espoused the importance of the Easter festivities, baderting that these were aimed at improving reconciliation .
He asked citizens to be submissive, respectful and humble in their efforts.
