Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency
Some agitated young people at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Asawase, Ashanti region, are accusing the party's leaders of trying to impose on them the sitting deputy.
Young people say they are not obliged to name the minority chief bad, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, as the party's primary race heats up.
The group is worried, Youth of Asawase says that chaos will erupt within the party if national leaders do not intervene.
The group leader, Fatiu Salihu, said they had to appeal to the police for protection so they could choose the nomination forms of a candidate, Masawudu Mubarak.
According to them, the party leaders defeated any attempt to select a form to challenge the incumbent, adding that they had to visit the party's regional office twice before obtaining forms.
Salihu says a Facebook post from regional secretary Kwame Zu has published a list of candidates who are excluding their contender, Masawudu Mubarak.
"They knew that there could be this kind of intimidation at this constituency level. So we planned that, if necessary, we would have to convince them to seek redress at the regional level.
"We were so surprised that they were not doing as well as the regional leaders, less well than the riding leaders. We did not know that it was a plot of some regional leaders who had promised Mr. Muntaka [incumbent] they will not allow anyone to challenge it, "he said.
He wants party leaders at the national level to find solutions to the problem in order to protect the image of the CND before the general elections of 2020.
Mr. Salihu said such disagreements at the regional level could be blamed on the chaos in the Ashanti regional office that resulted in the death of one person.
"Wherever there is a disunity, anything is possible, the leaders must intervene and avoid further chaos," he pleaded.
The former Sports Minister taught before embarking on politics.
Mr. Mubarak first became a Member of Parliament in 2005 after winning a by-election in the Asawase constituency, replacing the late Dr. Adamu Gibrine, also a member of the NDC, who won the seat in December 2004.
He subsequently retained his seat in December 2008 and won the next elections in 2012.
