The single person and The bachelorette are reality TV shows. By definition, the show is based on reality. Candidates really try (or should try) to fall in love and the star fights with their emotions every week and makes the best possible decisions based on the information given to them.
But Bachelor / Bachelorette is always a TV show, and sometimes the reality needs a little help to cross a completely entertaining territory.
There have been some candidates on the male and female versions of the series who have been stuck for a period of time that just seems … unnatural. A character is so obviously portrayed as a villain or a lunatic and yet the single / single keeps them.
True, the bachelor / bachelorette does not see everything we see before watching the season, so they do not have the same information as us, but sometimes we get the impression that some people get roses because they are fun to watch. or because they stoke the drama.
Former bachelor Ben Higgins wrote about the need to let go of his instinct when selecting roses at the first ceremonies.

Singles, singles and candidates are absolutely secretive about what's going on behind the scenes, so we can not know for sure how difficult it is for producers to push a bachelor / bachelorette into a some direction never allowed to choose who goes home.
