Do you have a grumpy cat? Studies show that it could be your fault

If your cat seems a little grumpy or aggressive, you can be responsible only for yourself.

Scientists have discovered that felines are really imitators and develop personalities in the image of their owners.

The researchers found that neurotic, overweight or gay pets had similar traits.

While dogs are often considered their owners, cats have long been considered more independent creatures, reports the Daily Mail.

Animal behavior experts at the University of Lincoln said that neurotic owners were less likely to leave their cat outside.

As a result, their pets were more likely to be overweight and "anxious or fearful" and presented with behavioral problems such as scraping furniture.

The study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, included personality tests on 3,300 cat owners and also revealed that purebred cats were more likely to be overweight.

Research is based on studies showing how parental style can affect a child's personality. Other cat experts have supported the results.

Danielle Gunn-Moore, professor of feline medicine at the University of Edinburgh, said: "Cats are a mini-me, they are sensitive creatures strongly affected by their surroundings."
