PVaccination rates are at the origin of this increase and the WHO said that "reluctance to vaccines" – reluctance or refusal to vaccinate – was one of the most major threats to the world for health.
The widening of pockets of unvaccinated children has paved the way for measles outbreaks that are plaguing many countries around the world, Unicef said.
The United States tops the list of high-income countries with the largest number of children having not received the first dose of the vaccine between 2010 and 2017, with over 2.5 million people. Next come France and the United Kingdom, with respectively 600 000 and 500 000 unvaccinated children during the same period.
Last week, US President Donald Trump urged Americans to be vaccinated after nearly 700 measles cases were reported in 22 states. President Trump had already compared vaccines with autism and, earlier in his presidency, had considered creating a vaccine safety committee.
