The Dodowa Highway has been identified by the Tema Regional Department of Transportation and Motor Traffic (MTTD) as a major accident-prone road in the Tema region.

The GNA-Tema and MTTD road safety project seeks to actively create a coherent and systematic weekly awareness campaign on the need to be careful on the road as a user, to educate all road users on their responsibilities. and to make drivers aware of the principles of the road in particular. safety regulations, rules and laws.
Sgt. Timinka explained that due to heavy traffic in Adenta and the surrounding area before the Dodowa highway, drivers after exiting traffic speed up to make up for lost time. In the process, they end up in accidents due to three factors: traffic fatigue, speed and the nature of the roads.
He identified other accident-prone areas in the region such as the Tema-Akosombo highway before the army recruit training school where the road was damaged and poses a risk to road users.
The other areas are the junction of community 18, the technical institute of Tema and the Super Paper area on the interchange road between the port of Tema and the highway, the top of the Adjei-Kojo bridge, the highway Accra -Tema, the Zenu-Atadeka highway and the action chapel area towards the freeway interchange.
He warned drivers using these roads to drive with caution to avoid causing or falling victim to accidents, saying MTTD would continue to work with GNA-Tema with its driver education program to remind drivers to do the right thing on the go.
The MTTD official explained that they often organized training programs for managers of different driver unions who in turn had to train their members in the language they could understand.
Sgt. Timinka said they intend to extend these trainings to private drivers and businesses in addition to schools, explaining that they see children as agents of change who could attract the attention of their parents and their parents. people on the road, if they were informed of the dos and don’ts. ‘ts of road use.
He urged road users to respect the principles of highway laws, highway code and highway code, as they contain all the information and instructions necessary for every road user, including pedestrians. , on dos and don’ts on the roads.

The MTTD officer added that a pedestrian who also fails to use a crosswalk and pedestrian bridges when available and crosses the road at his convenience is also an offense.
