A few food recalls caught my attention in a newsletter I received this week from Kansas State University Research and Extension. One door on frozen blackberries, the other on all-purpose flour sold in Aldi stores. Read more for more details.

Frozen blackberries have been badociated with possible contamination by hepatitis A. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease resulting from exposure to the hepatitis A virus, including food. This can range from a mild illness of a few weeks to a serious illness of several months. The disease usually occurs within 15 to 50 days of exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine and pale stools. Vaccination against hepatitis A can prevent the disease if it is administered within two weeks of exposure to a contaminated food. In rare cases, especially in consumers who are already seriously ill or immunocompromised, hepatitis A may progress to liver failure.

People who may have consumed the product concerned should consult their health care provider or local health department to determine if vaccination is appropriate, and consumers with symptoms of hepatitis A should contact their professional. of health. You can find out more about this reminder on the following website: https://bit.ly/2F1J9bB

The second reminder I want to get your attention on has been published by Aldi grocery stores. They recalled the all-purpose meal due to a multi-stage outbreak of E. coli 026. As of May 24, 17 people had been infected in eight states. No deaths have been reported.

The results of the survey showed that among the respondents, they reported eating, licking or tasting a paste or raw dough. Genetic fingerprints have identified flour as the source of the infection.

The symptoms of E. coli infection can appear in one to three days. But the time it takes to confirm that a person is part of an outbreak can take two to three weeks. For more information, visit the following website: www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2019/flour-05-19/index.html/.

I've checked both websites and printed the reminder information. The states involved in the flour recall were mainly from Ohio and the east coast. However, the blackberry recall comes from some lots sold in Kroger stores.

If you have any questions about these reminders, do not hesitate to call me.

Take the time to celebrate

On this Father's Day, I hope you find a way to celebrate your father. It's so refreshing to see fathers get more involved in their families beyond the role of breadwinner. I saw it in my husband, John, and now in our son and son-in-law, Adam and Art. Taking the time to develop and maintain relationships with children is ultimately profitable. Children whose fathers are active acquire skills that they can pbad on as adults. Self-esteem increases when fathers are actively involved in their children's lives. Children come with unique personalities, temperaments and development schedules. Fathers are an essential link for the well-being of children. Happy Father's Day to all dads!
