During his interview with Joe Rogan this week, Jack Dorsey discussed the possibility of adding support for editing tweets. Although Dorsey has commented on the functionality often requested in the past, his comments on Rogan show that Twitter is still discovering it.

In the show, Rogan suggests that Twitter adds support for a modification system that allows a user to edit his tweet, but the original version of this tweet would still be visible. Dorsey's answer was that Twitter is looking at "exactly that".
On the basis of the conversation, however, it seems that additional details are not yet clear. For example, Dorsey suggests a window of 5 to 30 seconds to allow editing tweets, but does not dive too much into the details.

Rogan: The ability to edit, as if you made a typo or something like that. But also the possibility for people to see the original.
Dorsey: We are looking at exactly that. The reason we did not edit initially is that we were built on SMS, we built on text messaging. Once you have sent a text, you can not retrieve it. So when you send a tweet, it is instantly transmitted to the world. You can not resume it.
You could build it as such, so maybe we could introduce a delay of 5 to 30 seconds for sending. And in this window you can edit. The problem with the lengthening of the duration is that it takes the real-time nature of the conversational flow.
Rogan: Is not clarity more important? You will always have the ability to communicate quickly.
Dorsey: It depends on the context. If you are in the context of an NBA game, you want to be fast and in the present moment. You want to be believed. But if you are considering what the president just did or make a statement, you probably need more time. And we can be dynamic there.
