The government will launch a technology solution next month to detect lost or stolen cell phones that operate in the country, said one official.
The tracking system would make it possible to detect stolen cell phones even if the SIM card was removed or if the unique code was changed, said the manager.
The Telematics Development Center (C-DoT) is ready to use this technology and the service should be launched in August. "C-DoT is ready to use this technology.
The telecommunications department will approach the minister for its launch after the session of Parliament. It should be launched in the coming months, "said a DoT official.
The current session of Parliament will run until July 26.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had badigned the Central Equipment Identification Register (CEIR) to the Mobile Phone Tracking Project, which was aimed at eliminating counterfeit cell phones and discouraging C-DoT theft in July 2017 .
The government has proposed to allocate 15 million rupees to the creation of CEIR in the country, which will reduce the number of counterfeit phones and discourage theft.
The CEIR system blocks all stolen or lost mobile phone services on all networks, even if the SIM card is removed or if the handset's IMEI number is changed.
