A follow-up to the 2019 hit Downton Abbey film is on the way in the near future, according to one of the franchise’s stars, Hugh Bonneville.
Actor Hugh Bonneville has revealed that a Downton Abbey 2 the film is on its way in the near future. The 57-year-old starred as Lord Grantham in the famous ITV period drama for six seasons, from 2010 to 2015, before a blockbuster feature film arrived in 2019. The series was created by author Julian Fellowes and quickly became something far larger a standard account of the British aristocracy in post-Edwardian times in England.
Dealing with the many activities of the Crawley family, Downton abbey allowed viewers to step into the densely layered hierarchy of domestic life of the eponymous estate. Throughout the series, many actual historical events unfolded, and a variety of engaging subplots allowed viewers to guess what would happen next. In addition to its vast array of awards, it was also listed as having the highest critical ratings for a TV show by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2011. All of this was enough to allow for the big screen, and l The huge success of the first film left plenty of room for more to come.

According to AND Canada, there are many reasons for Downton abbey fans will be excited again, as Bonneville has confirmed yet another big screen outing for the Crawley family. But before that excitement gets too pronounced, Bonneville wants to assure fans that, above all, the COVID-19 pandemic must be brought under control. Then and only then can the world’s favorite fictional aristocrats return. Bonneville also highlighted the need for everyone to get vaccinated in the weeks and months to come, saying:
“If everyone who is offered a vaccine takes a vaccine, we can make a film. We’re going to make a movie. It’s the usual thing, the planets are spinning, they’re starting to line up, but there’s this thing called coronavirus that’s hitting. Until this is reasonably brought under control, we won’t be able to round up all of these ducks in a row. There is certainly the intention to do it, we would like to do it, we are desperate to do it.
Arguably the best selling point of the first Downton abbey movie was that he was surprisingly able to attract viewers beyond his fan base. While it’s not uncommon for a popular TV series to gain new fans when it is adapted to the big screen, Downton abbey has always maintained such a large number of characters, plots, and subplots that it’s not exactly the easiest world to walk around without an insider. The film’s ability to maintain Downton abbeyThe rich backdrop of while providing enough intrigue for new audiences can hopefully continue into the sequel, but it’s hard to say exactly when that will arrive at this point.
Downton abbey can be widely acclaimed, and the 2019 film certainly did better than some would have hoped, but not all fans of the series are interested in seeing more. In some ways, the end of the series left things as they were meant to be, and Downton Abbey 2 is probably unnecessary. But for diehards and new fans, there is nothing better than more time spent with the Crawleys, especially in a post-pandemic world.
