As promised on Thursday, here are my thoughts on the many questions on Covid vaccines you asked me via multimedia platforms including my inbox.
It was difficult to answer each person because of the numbers, but I hope this information will suffice.
Did you know that the best vaccine against COVID-19[female[feminine because everyone living everywhere at the moment stays safe and follows protocols prescribed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the government?
Did you also know that despite the brilliant breakthrough in the Covid-19 vaccine race, none of them offer 100% protection even with double dosing?
Also, did you also know that an infected person who recovers is only immune for about 8 months, as the neutralizing antibodies decrease and will require vaccination afterwards? As you well know, it has been confirmed that re-infections occur.
Also, did you know so far that the African Union has only managed to secure less than 400 million vaccines which, if given in a double dose, will cover 200 million people? This translates to around 4 million Ghanaians.
This is why the government of Ghana must display its vaccination plan alongside intense advocacy to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
And that’s why I say our best vaccine is to wash our hands regularly with soap under running water, wear masks, use disinfectants, and socialize.
Let me also urge you to ignore those who seek to diminish confidence in vaccines in general.
The vaccines have helped far more than the regrettable isolated cases of harm and therefore deserve more praise for their excellent work against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B and many more. ‘other.
Israel is already registering lower Covid infection rates among vaccinated populations.
And note my words, with aggressive vaccination, Europe and the United States will reverse their deaths from Covid and ICU congestion once they vaccinate the elderly and those with pre-existing illnesses and, most importantly , will have reached a vaccination coverage greater than 70% (collective immunity).
In Ghana, we have a lot more to do as our cases skyrocket and our already overburdened health system shrinks further.
