The driver and his conductor who fought with a police officer were seriously beaten in police custody, their lawyer said.
The two were arrested when the video of the episode became viral and they were charged with four counts, including badaulting a police officer.
The court placed them in custody.
Says Joy News, Francis Xavier Sosu, a human rights lawyer, who met the duo after being placed under the custody of the National Investigation Bureau (BNI), said their appearance physical and their behavior clearly confirm that they were abused.
He added that they had also been psychologically affected by the abuses. "You can see the fear," he told Joy News, Joseph Ackah Blay.
The lawyer added that he was satisfied with the treatment of the defendants by the BNI after they were sent to this prison.
"After our conversation, the BNI provided them with a safe haven," he said.
He added that the driver and his companion are the victims of the case. When they will appear in court, their version of the story will be told.
Eyewitnesses corroborate this claim, according to one of the people who spoke to Joy News, the police chased the driver for allegedly skipped a red light and physically badaulted him. He said the driver had responded while he was tired of the abuse.
