Driver caught for allegedly hitting pedestrian

James Town District Police arrested a Fuseini Iddrisu for running over and killing a pedestrian, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, head of the public affairs unit at the Regional Police Command Accra.

DSP Tenge told the Ghanaian News Agency in an interview that the incident happened on December 26, 2020 at around 10:20 p.m.

She said the suspect was in charge of the DAF Cargo commercial truck with registration number ER 9556-C loaded with yams and driving from Galloway towards the Agbogbloshie Konkomba yam market.

Upon reaching a section of the road near Bimbila station, he ran over an unknown adult male pedestrian, around 35 years old.

DSP Tenge said the victim was seriously injured and rushed to Korle Bu University Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

She said the body was taken to the hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy while suspect Iddrisu was being held for investigation.
