A 27-year-old driver has been remanded in custody by Nkawie Circuit Court for selling and smoking substances suspected of being Indian hemp in a cemetery.

Godfred Gyamfi was arrested at Abuakwa-Maakro Cemetery during police operations in some communities in Atwima-Nwabiagya South Municipality to crack down on suspected criminal activity and weed smokers.

His plea was unsuccessful and would reappear in the tribunal chaired by Johnson Abbey on February 18 of this year.

Detective Inspector Francis Opoku told court that Gyamfi was arrested in a police operation on January 24 this year.

His accomplices managed to escape, but the police recovered 53 packages of weed from Gyamfi’s sack and 1,000.00 GHc believed to be sales of the weed from his pocket.

Inspector Opoku said Gyamfi admitted the offense in his warning and was therefore brought to court to be taken into custody to allow police to continue their investigations.
