The driver was sentenced to three years imprisonment
A 28-year-old driver, who injured his uncle in fighting in Teshie, Accra, was sentenced to three years in prison for forced labor by a circuit court in Accra.
The court ordered Isaac Sowah to pay compensation of 1,000 GHc in order to limit the expenses incurred by his uncle.
Sowah, who was accused of causing unlawful harm, pleaded guilty and begged the court to have mercy on him.
The court, chaired by Rita Abrokwa Doko, said Sowah guilty.
She added that Sowah did not waste his time and did not break the law before.
According to the court, Sowah, married with three children, was remorseful in court.
He therefore imposed a sentence of three years imprisonment.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, stated that the petitioner was Emmanuel Armah Tetteh, an uncle of Sowah.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said that there had been a long feud between the convict and the plaintiff, who reside in the same house in Teshie.
He said that on March 16 of this year, at about 2 o'clock, Mr. Tetteh, after eating in his room, went outside to wash his hands.
The prosecution said shortly after Sowah had heard an unusual sound suggesting that a stone had been thrown into his room.
The Prosecutor stated that Sowah had been forced out of his room to find out what was wrong, adding that he had confronted his uncle who was then out on the issue and that this had caused an argument.
The lawsuit stated that Sowah had become so furious that he entered his room and fired a sharp cutlbad to attack his uncle.
During the process, Sowah's uncle was repeatedly wounded in the right hand and head and began to bleed profusely.
The prosecution stated that the applicant managed to escape and rushed to the Nungua Domestic Violence Support Unit, where he received a medical report form for treatment.
He added that when the complainant returned with the medical report form, Sowah was arrested, but efforts to recover said cutlbad were unsuccessful.
The prosecution stated that Sowah denied using a cutlbad but a piece of roofing sheet to injure the plaintiff.
