Ghana’s statistical service has once again extended the period of this year’s population and housing census.
According to government statistician Professor Samuel Kobina Anim, the extension became necessary to fully cover some areas of the country where investigators could not reach everyone.
In particular, there are 25 districts where enumerators could not reach everyone.
However, Professor Kobina Anim did not specify the new date on which the exercise will end.
The 2021 population and housing census was supposed to end on June 28, but was initially extended until July 18 and the latest announcement.
He explained that they achieved their goal in most parts of the country, but that there are still places, especially in the Greater Accra region, where they were only able to capture 94% of the population.
“In the 16 regions, the data collected exceeds three quarters of the expected data, all exceeding 90%, with the exception of Greater Accra.
“In view of the uncompromising goal of counting everyone, the data collection exercise has been extended to certain regions of the country,” he said.
Some of the affected districts include Ga West, Ga North, Adentan Municipal, Kpone Katamanso, Ledzokuku, Tema West, Krowor, La Nkwantanang Madina, Ga East, Ayawaso West Municipal, Shai Osudoku, Awutu Senya East and Krowor Municipal.
The others are Ningo Prampram, Gomoa East, Wassa Amenfi Central, Ashaiman, Tema Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Sunyani, Ga Central, Ga South, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Akwapim North, Ketu South and Akwapim South.
