Dutch technology company ElaadNL has developed a Proof of Concept (PoC) for an intelligent electric vehicle electric grid using IOTA Tangle technology focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), the company announced on Feb. 14.

According to the announcement, the PoC demonstrates the ability of smart grids not only to consume energy, but also to generate and redistribute it autonomously among community members. The initiative builds on IOTA's Tangle technology, which allows shippers to autonomously decide on the need to help balance the load on the network.

In addition, charging stations can earn IOTA tokens by charging electric vehicles at a lower speed or off-peak time. ElaadNL is a technology company created in 2009 by a group of network managers with the aim of developing electric vehicle infrastructure and providing smart charging to electric vehicles. Since its creation, the company has installed 3,000 public charging points in the Netherlands.

In January, the Danish utility Energinet extended its partnership with the IOTA distributed ledger network to investigate the use of its technology in new areas. IOTA's product offering is specifically designed for IoT and Energinet seeks to create new IoT-based solutions for emerging phenomena, such as green energy and electric vehicles.

In December 2018, the Spanish renewable energy company ACCIONA Energía announced its intention to deploy the blockchain to monitor electricity production. ACCIONA and the software start-up FlexiDAO jointly worked on the development of a commercial demonstrator to monitor the renewable energy production supply chain from five wind and hydropower plants in Spain to four client companies in Portugal.
