Parliament approved a € 58.9 million EPC / Turnkey contract between the Government of Ghana and Contracta Construction UK Limited for the implementation of the Phase Three development of the airport. Kumasi.

The scope of the airside work includes an apron extension of 7,731 m2, a 202,805 m2 runway and an airside service lane.
Under this contract, the London branch of Deutsche Bank AG provides financing under an export credit agreement; UK Export Finance (UKEF) provides the export credit guarantee to enable the London branch of Deutsche Bank AG to lend under this arrangement.
The financial package offers a 100% financial solution, according to a report from the Committee on Roads and Transportation, read by Mr. Samuel Ayeh-Paye, said the chairman of the Committee.
According to the report, the aim of the project is to position Kumasi, the largest shopping center in Ghana's central belt, to complete the multimodal transport system, including rail, road and air links, to support the development of Kumasi to facilitate the movement of goods and people to the central and northern parts of the country and the subregion, especially the Sahelian countries.
In addition to the project leading to the development of Kumasi as a strategic commercial airport linking the subregion and facilitating the movement of people and goods, it would attract more investment, create more jobs and catalyze economic growth.
Airport development would boost the agricultural sector and take advantage of fresh produce exports, facilitate the growth of domestic air traffic and boost the tourism sector.
According to the report, the Committee was satisfied that Phase III would take place at the same time as Phase II, which was still to be completed.
Indeed, after a review and a technical investigation by the contractor and the various stakeholders, the committee concluded that the two simultaneous phases would reduce the budget of the Phase III project by 4.3 million euros, as well as a longer runway for Kumasi Airport. .
The committee recommended that the contractor and all stakeholders involved work tirelessly to complete the project within 30 months.
