A woman whose house was used as accommodation for some 31 of the 128 ECOWAS nationals arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service for irregular entry and stay, was also arrested.
According to a report from citinewsroom.com, the owner, whose East Legon Hills residence housed these illegal residents, is currently with police, helping with investigations.
During a raid at dawn on Friday, Ghana’s immigration service followed up on intelligence that led them to the location from where the illegal residents were picked up.
“We received reports a few days ago that there were undocumented migrants in the hills of East Legon. We went to stop them after walking around the area for a while. 31 of them are Nigerians. We have taken steps to bring them back to their country.
“The team during the exercise seized laptops and phones allegedly used to perpetuate cyber fraud,” Chief Superintendent of Ghana Immigration Service Operations Department David Asiedu-Addo told media. .
Meanwhile, Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta, who is the Service’s public relations manager, has advised owners to be careful of the people they host, especially when those people are foreign nationals without the proper documentation.
“I urge Ghanaian landlords to be careful when handing over their properties. They have to check whether the individuals have residence permits. If they don’t, they have to report it.
“If this landlady had followed the precepts of the law, she would not be in want,” he said.
