Mr. Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, Regional Chief of the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), congratulated his staff for their continued support of promoting mental health on highways before, during and after the Easter holidays.

He added that the Commission had not recorded any major accidents in the three regions during the Easter holidays and had congratulated the Traffic and Transport Department of the Police (MTTD) and the Authority for the Licenses of drive (DVLA) for their proactive attitude.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Boateng also congratulated drivers, motorists, pedestrians, road agencies and all road users and transport unions on the feat, and expressed the hope that discipline on the roads would be improved to minimize accidents and deaths.

He stated that the NRSC, in collaboration with the police MTTD and the DVLA, had intensified its training and traffic control exercises on accident-prone highways – Techiman-Kintampo, Sunyani-Goaso, Sunyani-Berekum and Duayaw-Nkwanta-Bechem, before, during and after the works. Easter and he hoped that the exercise would continue with the support of the collaborators.

Mr. Boateng noted that the use of tricycles remained an emerging issue in all three regions, noting that many cyclists had no license and had little knowledge of road signs and regulations, thus contributing to road accidents.

He added that the problem prevailed in Goaso, Duayaw-Nkwanta, Bechem, Chiraa, Berekum, Nkoranza, Techiman, Drobo, Jinjini, Kenyasi, Hwidiem and Mim, adding that more than 200 cyclists had benefited from the program of education at Mim's road safety, where the problem had worsened.

Mr Boateng said that although the Commission and its stakeholders have organized several road safety education programs for tricycle users, the situation seemed insurmountable, and called for the introduction of road safety measures. police and prosecution of highway traffic offenders.

In addition to education and toll control, extension of terminals and individual education of drivers and pbadengers, he explained that the Commission had extended road safety education to churches and mosques.

Mr. Boateng reminded the population that road crashes and deaths have no social clbad and called on religious and Muslim leaders to use their platforms to talk and educate their followers on road safety issues.

He commended the government's implementation of the Government Builders Corp. (NABCo) government program, which he said had improved NRSC staffing and continued to be relevant to the Commission in its road safety education programs.
