The reason that potatoes have proven effective in lowering high blood pressure is because of their potbadium content.

According to Professor Van Horn, people with high blood pressure should consume 2,000 to 4,000 mg of potbadium a day.

"By eating more fruits and vegetables, you will increase your potbadium levels and help restore the delicate balance. This will help your kidneys function more efficiently – and help lower your blood pressure to a healthy level.

One study found that potatoes were the best source of dietary potbadium, by calculating a small, cored potato providing 738 mg of potbadium.
