The President of the World Health Organization has set a six-month goal to end the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the number of new cases per week was now half what it was at the beginning of this year.

He warned that the Butembo and Katwa regions remained hot spots for Ebola and that insecurity posed a constant threat to efforts to contain the disease.

More than 580 people died in the current epidemic, the tenth of the Congo's history.
